Plant Questions

Q: In what growing conditions are plants kept before sale?

A: All plants are acclimated to ambient conditions (average 70*F - 50%H), kept under grow lights, and treated with beneficial insects unless otherwise noted in individual product descriptions. If new home conditions differ, your plant purchase will need to be acclimated to its new environment. Some leaf discoloration or loss is normal during the acclimation process.

Q: What is plant acclimation?

A: Acclimation is the progressive process of adjusting a plant from one type of environment to another. This is often done when moving plants from indoor to outdoor, partial shade to full sun, or in the case of indoor plants, out of a humid cabinet (or into!).

Q: Do you use pesticides?

A: No! We do not use any pesticides! Instead, we use beneficial insects to keep unwanted pests under control.

Q: What are beneficial insects? How big are they? I don't want to bring bugs IN my home!

A: Whether you're buying a houseplant from us or another garden store, it's almost guaranteed you're bringing home some kind of bug. Usually it's a pest (spider-mite, thrip, mealy bug, etc., aka plant-killers), but we do our best to ensure the bugs you bring home from us benefit your plant's lifecycle by deterring those which are unwanted. Almost all beneficial insects used in our growing facilities are microscopic in size, and you'll likely never notice them!
